Will You Blast My Event….. SAPs

Don’t you hate getting that blanket ” will you market my event” email? It’s usually from someone who finds absolutely no reason to talk to you during the year, they don’t ever drop in to say hello, happy birthday, etc. etc. UNTIL, they are having the most fabulous event of the year. AND your company will get all this exposure for just being affiliated with it…….

Hymmmm, ok. Show me. Better yet, come at me with a professional package chocked full of benefits and I may just ignore that you only check in when you need something.

But how do you create said “Strategic Alliance Package“. Now again ladies, this is a Kristi term. You won’t find this term in Google meaning the same thing. But I put these packages together to work with different brands and businesses on my own events and help my clients do the same.

Sometimes, they make a huge difference, sometimes, they are the beginning to very fruitful and strong business relationships.

You can create a Strategic Alliance Package for any project or program, like:

  • becoming a guest blogger for each other’s blog
  • marketing each other’s events
  • helping to sell tickets for each other

Try this instead of shooting out  the mostly avoided ” will you market my event” emails.

In this package start off with benefits of your event to the “partner” like if you have scheduled pre-marketing or regular marketing, they could benefit from their name being mentioned like:

  • blog posts about your event
  • live blogging mentions
  • news interviews you get
  • podcast and radio interviews you get
  • teaser videos you do for your event
  • marketing on your event website

And the list goes on an on. Give them a list of the exposure they can expect. This is much more compelling than…. help me blast this event because I’m awesome. Think about it from your potential strategic partner’s prospective. What’s in it for them? How can you both win?

Then give them a “how they can help section”

Make it easy for people- everyone’s busy and if they have to think too much, they may be inclined to say no. The second part of your Strategic Alliance Package is the Marketing Section, which can include things like:

  • pre-written tweets that include your hashtag, link to register and keywords you want out there about your event
  • 2-3 sentences about your event that they could include in their blog posts or newsletters
  • the link to register
  • the hashtag
  • pre-written Facebook posts if they want to copy and paste

And we could go on and on. You want to make it easy for someone to help you.

Next time you are thinking about asking someone to help market your event ( a serious partner) do your due diligence, show your event some respect, show the partner some respect, and put the work in. Have someone create the package on Fiverr or Elance and send it off.

With a Strategic Alliance Package, you have a better chance of a partner taking you seriously and getting to a yes.
